no fan messages

As of Sept 30th , Facebook Page admins will not be able to send private messages to their Facebook fans as the social network feels that best way for a page to connect with its fans is via “Wall Status” updates rather than sending private messages.

Facebook didn’t make any official announcement for this on their blog, but if you are a page admin you would see below message in the “Resources” section of your Page settings.

“We want you to connect with your fans in the most effective ways possible. That’s why as of September 30th you’ll no longer be able to send updates to fans using Facebook Messages. The best way to make sure your content is seen is to post it on your Wall so people see your updates in their news feed.

We’re focused on creating even better tools for pages – look for announcements soon”

Facebook also made it clear that it’s going to make changes to the pages and is going to provide better tools which can help improve the user engagement. Whereas Facebook Page won’t be able to update their fans via messages, Facebook suggested 2 methods which can be used to connect with existing fans and get more fans.

  • Post content on your page Wall so people see your updates in their news feed. You can target your posts by location or language by choosing Customize from the audience selector dropdown before you post.
  • Consider using targeted Facebook Ads or Sponsored Stories to help grow and highlight your message within the Facebook experience.
