Facebook has started testing Real Time feature “Happening Now” on a small group of facebook user’s home page. In the right hand side of their home page, users will be able to see realtime feeds when their friends like , comment, interact with each other and do check in facebook places etc.
Facebook updated that “this test includes a small percentage of facebook users, just a fraction of a percent. In the coming weeks, as we learn more from this test, we’ll keep making improvements and may expand it to more people”.
All those who are unable to find this “Happening Now” section on your home page have to wait until they get lucky to be part of random group of facebook users on whose home page this feature is being tested. We weren’t the chosen one and here is the screenshot of where this section would have appeared on our profile.
Currently real time section is a lengthy section and replaces ads sections on the right hand side of screen but we believe that facebook will either reduce the size of this section or find another better place to post advertisements. As facebook’s ad revenue hit $1.86 billion for 2010 and is expected to hit $4 billion in 2011 , advertisements are major source of income for facebook. After google’s +1 launch and twitter automatic URL shortening service, now its time for facebook to launch a next big feature.
