Microsoft has officially released Halo: Spartan Assault for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 worldwide. The new action game is playable on every major Windows Phone 8 smartphone and Windows 8 computers. The game will be exclusively available for Verizon subscribers for the first month.

Windows Phone 8 consumers have something to brag about now – they have one of the best game franchise available exclusive to their platform. In its official blog post, the company has described the game as “available worldwide except in the U.S., where Verizon Wireless customers get first dibs until August 16.”

This move is likely to piss off non Verizon subscribers using Windows phone, but this is what Microsoft decided to do, so all others will have to live with it and wait till August 16th.

One of the best features of this game is that it the consumers can play the game on one device, and continue from their last save point on another device. You can use a smartphone, Windows 8 tablet or a standard Windows 8 desktop computer; the hardware doesn’t limit your gameplay in any way. Unfortunately you’ll have to buy 2 versions of the game if you’re planning to do so.

Consumers excited about Halo: Spartan Assault should remember that the game is graphically intense and will put your smartphone through a lot of work. Hence the game will not be playable on low-end Windows Phone 8 devices that have 512MB of RAM. These include the Nokia Lumia 520, Lumia 620 and Lumia 720.
