How to Avoid Amazon Ads when visiting Websites

Posted by Prashant on August 8, 2012 in How To,Website

Whenever I look for something on Amazon, for next few days I see Amazon ads for that product almost all over the internet. Amazon doesn’t care even if I was just browsing that product on their store.  Their system thinks that if I was looking for a product on Amazon there are strong chances that I may buy that product if persuaded by these advertisements on partner websites.

If you are also unhappy with this unwanted advertisement and want to disable this setting, below are steps that you need to follow. But before you go to that, let understand why Amazon shows these ads on websites that you visit.

Whenever you visit Amazon , it stores a cookie on your machine and then tracks your visit on the website. That way it knows what item you are looking for on its store and based on your interests shows you recommendation on its website. Not only this, whenever you visit any website which is Amazon’s Affiliate partner, Amazon will start showing the ads which are based on your recent searches on Amazon.com.

By default “Personalize Ads from Amazon” will be enabled which allows Amazon to show personalized ads on partner websites. To disable this, click on the radio button next to “Do not Personalize Ads from Amazon for this Internet Browser” and click Submit.
