How to make the MOST of iOS 6 Do Not Disturb feature

Posted by Mayank on September 21, 2012 in iPhone

One of the key features in iOS 6 is the Do Not Disturb feature. Do Not Disturb, when turned on, will not only completely silence your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch, but it will prevent the screen from turning on when an alert is received.

The need for a Do Not Disturb feature arose from tons of notifications, which keep popping up even while you’re sleeping.

Anyone who has received a late night text message disturbing their sleep, or accidentally received a dumb wrong number phone call in the middle of a meeting, the new Do Not Disturb feature is a lifesaver.

Here’s how to setup Do Not Disturb and manage is right.

How to make the MOST of iOS 6 Do Not Disturb feature

1. Setup Do Not Disturb

Do Not Disturb is not enabled by default. You need to enable by following the easy steps mentioned below:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Slide to Turn On the Do Not Disturb feature

the iPhone’s new feature that shuts down all incoming messages for as long as you have it on. It’s a great feature that helps you go offline for short durations of time, but you’ll likely want to set it up so certain people can get through to you.

2. How to Schedule Do Not Disturb

You can always use the slider to turn on and off the Do not Disturb feature, however, it requires you to be attentive. If you want to be a true ninja and leave nothing to chance, you need to schedule the Do Not Disturb feature.

Do Not Disturb schedule can be enabled from Settings > Notifications > Do Not Disturb. Here you can set up a specific schedule when Do Not Disturb runs, and set up who you allow incoming calls from. For example, in the screenshot above, I’ve set a Do Not Disturb on my iPhone to allow calls only from those in my Favorite list from 11pm to 6am.

By default, the Repeated Calls feature is ON. You may want to leave this ON just in case there is an emergency and the person calling you tries again within 3 minutes.
