Remove Duplicates from your Address Book [How to]

Posted by Mayank on January 28, 2012 in Mac

When you use multiple devices and sync them, you might end up getting a lot of duplicate entries in your Address Book. For example, I ended up getting duplicate entries in my iPhone Contact List due to multiple iPhones connected to a Mac. Deleting duplicates can be a cumbersome task and if you want to get rid of duplicate entries from the Address Book in a straigh shot, here’s how you can do it:

How to Remove Duplicates from your Address Book

  1. Open your Address book
  2. Go to Cards -> Look for Duplicates..

Once you select “Look for Duplicates..”, duplicate entries are scanned and you get a notification

You have the option to merge contacts or cancel the operation. You can also select the option to merge contacts which are the same name, but different numbers. I like this option because though I have friends with the same name, I try to keep them distinct.
